THE END-USE CHALLENGE:
•Soft Shell garments were developed to improve upon the short comings of “hard shell” garments (waterproof, breathable fabrics). The fabrics used in Soft Shell garments are not as waterproof as hard shell fabrics, but they have increased water vapor transport (more breathable), have more stretch, are more comfortable, and are quieter.
•Soft Shell garments fall short when trying to handle large quantities of sweat. Soft Shell garments are a big improvement over hard shell garments in handling moisture vapor, but under high aerobic exercise liquid moisture can build up on the inside of the garment. The next evolution in outwear garments is to use high performance fabrics on the inside of Soft Shell fabrics.
THE COCONA PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE:
• Cocona® Soft Shell fabrics utilize Cocona® polyester yarn on the inside of the Soft Shell fabric and the patented Cocona® finishing process to facilitate moisture transfer and accelerate drying.
• Cocona® fabric does this by creating effective water absorption, superior wicking and 3D-accelerated drying from the huge added surface area of the Cocona® carbon particles.
• Like spreading water on a table from a puddle to a larger area dries it quicker, more surface area on a yarn allows the same amount of water to be spread over a wider area for faster evaporation.
• Cocona® polyester yarns have over 10x more surface area compared to ordinary round polyester yarns. By comparison, even dogbone fibers only has an increased surface area of 2x compared to regular polyester.
